  1. How come this app asking me to pay again when i download all my apps in my new 4s phone???

  2. William Sidell says:

    Gene,

The purchase is tied to your iTunes Account and not you phone so if you try the in app purchase on your phone again, it will upgrade for free.

  3. William Sidell says:

    Paul,

When viewing your photos, there is a play button on the bottom that will begin the slideshow.

  4. Quick question for William,
Now that I’ve put my photos into the Private Photo Vault app and password protected them, do I remove them from my Iphone Pics folder on my computer? This is the folder that my Itunes uses to sync my photos. That way, they won’t appear under the “Photos” app on my Iphone, correct? I’m just a little confused. Thanks for your help.

  5. William Sidell says:

    Cory,

If you are transferring photos that you have transferred from iTunes to the iPhones Photos App into Private Photo Vault, there are two ways to prevent them from being in the Photos App.

    1. Launch iTunes and disable syncing for that folder.
    2. Delete the photos you don’t want to show up in the Photos App from your folder.

  6. I purchased photo vault pro through in app purchase. I clean off some apps from my iphone 4s during syncing and now I find that I don’t have the pro version anymore. When I try to upgrade through in app method it asks me to pay again… Same thing with itunes.. it expects me to pay again. How can I get the pro version back without paying again.

  7. William Sidell says:

    Ed,

In order to get the full version of Private Photo Vault back. Launch the app and click the upgrade button, it will request that you buy the app again. However, Apple will remember your purchase and you will not be charged again.

  8. jingle policarpio says:

i accidentally import videos to the private photo vault and i realized that they were converted to photos. is there any way i can undo the conversion? i really need those videos and i dont have any back up. thanks.. :(

  9. William Sidell says:

    Jingle,

Regarding your videos getting converted to photos, Private Photo Vault does not allow the import of videos in the app and does not even display them on the import screen (There is no opportunity to import them).

Regarding the recovery of your videos, your best bet is to look at your iPhone backups. If you have a mac, I recommend this program, http://supercrazyawesome.com/. For windows you can try http://www.iphonebackupextractor.com/

  13. Is there ‘Select All’ button to ease moving photos between album?

  14. mshasegawa says:

Can you make it possible to also move files (to another album) from the photo viewing page, not just from the album thumbnail page?

    Thanks

  15. William Sidell says:

I will consider adding that into the next update.

    William

  16. William Sidell says:

At this time, there is no select all button, but it may be included in the next update.

    William

  17. PPV 3 provides a very effective visual reference for images but is there also somewhere a file name reference is available? Also, do you plan to add a feature to allow re-arrangement of the presentation order of images within an album (folder)?

    Thanks

    BAW

  18. A question for William,

I love the application and think it is great however i’ve hoping that i can continue to use it. I have forgotten my passowrd and i had some photos there that i can’t lose. I was hoping that there was a way that i could at least view or even reset the password through itunes. That way i would be authenticated as the actual owner/user, if you know what i mean.

Is there a way that this can be done?

I really hope that you can help!

  19. I have private photo vault on my iphone. I recently got an ipad and want to transfer my photos from the phone to the pad.
    How can I do this?
    Thank You,
    Jeff

  20. William Sidell says:

    Hi Jeff,

The process of transferring photos to your iPad is simple using the iTunes shared album.

    Syncing with iTunes:
    1. In order to sync with iTunes you must have any photos that you want to transfer to iTunes in the iTunes Shared Directory in Private Photo Vault.
    2. Open iTunes and select your device
    3. Select the Apps tab
    4. Scroll down to File Sharing
    5. Select Private Photo Vault
    6. Drag files to your computer
    7. Repeat steps 2-5 with your iPad
    8. Drag files to your iPad

    William

  21. William Sidell says:

    Sean,

I am sorry, but at the moment there is no way to recover your password for Private Photo Vault.

    William

  22. Can you explain why it is necessary to enable location services in order for the app to function correctly and to import? I do not want my photos geotagged. Seems like an unnecessary invasion of privacy for private photos.

I was going to put this in a review but decided it would be fairer to give you a reason to explain and perhaps fix it before I submitted a negative review. Thanks.

  23. William Sidell says:

    Dave,

Your reasoning makes perfect sense about not wanting to share location information. The actual reason this app requires location services to be enabled is because of the way Apple’s iPhone SDK is designed for developers. In order to be able to access a device’s photos, a developer can connect through 2 methods:

    1. An apple pre-made image selection view that allows a user to select one photo from the photos app at a time.
    2. Access to a library that will give a developer access to all the user’s images at once.

This app uses the second method to allow multiple images to be imported at once. An unfortunate consequence of using this library is that any app using it must get location permission from the user. This is because images in your camera roll may have location information associated with them.

There have been several developers that have complained about this same problem: http://gbradley.com/2010/08/12/iphone-images-metadata. In this article, you can see this point made as problem #1. Private Photo Vault has no need to access the geo-data associated with your photos, but in order to get access to this library, location services are required.

The app does not actually use your location information for anything, it just requires access in order to import your photos.

I hope this answers your question and am sorry about any confusion,

    William

  24. I had some pictures in photo vault. All of a sudden my phone started giving me trouble & I took it to Apple & they replaced my phone as it was under warranty. I thought I have a back up in iTunes so I erased everything on my phone to get it replaced. But at home when I backed up all my files I could not find those pictures in my phone.
Now my question is to you
Is there any way I can recover those pictures or not. Those pictures mean a lot to me. Please reply me ASAP.

    Thank you!

  25. Kelvin Twist says:

Howdy, I sent this question on the 11/2 but no reply as of yet, states it needs to still be moderated?

    Hi,
    Great app.
I have just purchased it on one of my iPhones, but on my second iPhone & iPad it does not show that it is purchased? Do I just press upgrade and Apple won’t charge me again?
And re Albums, if I create one on my iPhone from camera photos etc, how can I get it to sync to my second iPhone and iPad within your app?
    Cheers, Kelvin

  26. William Sidell says:

    Hey Kelvin,

Sorry for never getting back to your on your previous post.

Regarding getting the app on your iPad, you can get it for free by the method that you suggested. If you press upgrade, it will remember your previous purchase and you will not be charged again.

Regarding syncing albums between the iPhone and iPad, you must use the iTunes Shared Album and copy the photos from your iPhone to your computer. Then you can connect your iPad and copy them to the iPad by using the iTunes Shared Album again.

    William

  27. William Sidell says:

    Jane,

It sounds like the photos in Private Photo Vault were not backed up in iTunes. There is unfortunately no easy way to recover these photos.

    William

  28. Hi William,

I’m not sure if you answered this already. But I want to delete some photos that are in the vault. How do I do that? I have the free version, btw. Also, is there a way to export ALL the photos in the vault back to the Camera Roll, instead of one by one?

  29. William Sidell says:

    Cynthia,

Regarding exporting all the photos back to the Camera Roll and deleting more than a single image at once, the process is very similar.

    1. Go to your Photo Album with the photos you want to export or delete

    2. Tap the edit button and begin selecting photos

    3. Tap Export for exporting the images back to the Camera Roll or tap delete to remove them from the album.

    William

  30. William,

Thank you! I thought I was to first select either Export or Delete, THEN select the photos. Silly me.

Great app! Can’t believe it’s not a full 5 stars!

  31. Kelvin Twist says:

    Hi William,
thank you for the responses to my previous questions, yep worked perfectly :-)

I have been having some trouble recently though (since purchasing the product) when running on my iPad, I import the photos okay via iTunes, but when I go to scroll thru them the app crashes on about the 3rd photo.. I tried moving them to a new album etc, same thing happens.
I have been trying different directories from my computer and it seems to be file size related?
when I attack files sizes of greater than 1.1 GB, it seems to then cause the crashing?

Is there a file size limit I should be aware of?
this same problem does not seem to occur on the iPhone as I have just tested it…???

    Cheers, Kelvin

  32. Simon Fletcher says:

    Hi William,

Such a great app! Do you have any plans to add a ‘shuffle’ feature when viewing an album? The slideshow currently only plays pics in order

    Cheers, Simon

  33. William,

I found some bug during export, import pictures.

I thinks it’s too critical for using your apps…. other fuction is worked well.

the bug condition is as below.

    1) make new album

    2) import picture from camera rolls.

    3) export some pictures to camera rolls.

–> Bug (1), the picture direction is automatically rotated. 90 deegrees by clock wise

    4) import the rotated picture from camera rolls

    5) Bug (2), when viewing, the two picture is piled up. I don’t know the problem is occured from whether the photo is broken or only displaying pictures.

–> when Bug (1) is occured, I try to rotate manually correct direction. and then re-import the picture. the Bug (2) is now occured.

if you need snap shot of problem from my ipad, I will let you know that situation by e-mail.

    Best Regards,
    June.

  34. William Sidell says:

    Hey June,

Sorry for the problems you are having regarding the orientation of your photos getting imported into Private Photo Vault. This has occurred in the past but has been corrected.

What version of iOS does your iPad have?

    William

  35. William Sidell says:

    Hey Simon,

This will be considered for the next update.

    William

  36. Dear William,

the vesion is iOS 5.1, the device is the new iPad.

I knew that kinds of bugs are fixed at the latest version of your apps.

    But, the bugs are occured.

I can reconstruct that bug in my iPad. (5 min ago, I have done it.)

if you want to receive snapshot or more detailed information, request to me by e-mail.

I am willing to do to solve the bugs.

  37. William Sidell says:

    June,

I have actually just tested this out myself and found that you are correct.

This issue will be fixed in the next update.

Hopefully, the next update will be available either this week or the next.

    William

  38. William,

O.K. I expect next update would be good.

and I’m very thankful interactive your response :)

    Thanks again.

    June.

  39. William,
I am running the free version, and when connected to iTunes, it says this app can transfer pictures between my phone and computer. However, when in iTunes, none of the pictures show up to move to my computer, can you please help.

    Thanks 1

  40. William Sidell says:

    Mike,

Take a look at the instructions in Private Photo Vault for iTunes Syncing.

    William

  41. Hi, I bought the app, but now want to transfer the photos in the vault from my iphone to my computer. Is there anyway of doing this, I have backed up my iphone to itunes so presume they are there somewhere but cannot find a way of viewing them :(

  42. William Sidell says:

    Ayesha,

In order to transfer photos to your computer. You must place any photos you want to copy over in the iTunes Shared Album. To see how to use the iTunes Album, go to the import page and tap on the iTunes Syncing button.

    William

  43. Dear
I just want to know that either the pictures saved in private photo vault can be accessed by external (any source) or the pictures in my mobile are saved or exported to internet (any site) autmatically ?

because when saving in phot vault 3.2 it asks for location services ?

    Thanks

  44. William Sidell says:

    Kamran,

The photos are only saved to the device. The app only needs location services in order to access photos in the camera roll because iPhone photos automatically have location data stored in them.

    William

  45. Thanks William

  46. Georgia says:

I purchased the upgraded version of Private Photo Vault. You advertise we can save videos.

When is this going to be working? So disappointed. A little false advertising

    Thank you,

  47. William Sidell says:

    Georgia,

Sorry for the confusion. The next update to Private Photo Vault will have video support. Unfortunately, Apple approved the Private Photo Vault Pro application, before Private Photo Vault with the Pro in app purchase.

Video will be available in the next update.

    William

  48. I had to get a new iphone and my Photo Vault app reinstalled on my new phone. Is there a way to recover my old photos from my Photo Vault or did I lose them all and have to start over?

  49. William Sidell says:

    Jennifer,

When you plug your phone into your computer, you should get an option to restore your iPhone to a previous backup date. Set it to the backup of your old device.

    William
